‘The story depends upon every one of us to come into being’.  Trinh T. Minh-Ha

Transformation and change are at the heart of any tale.  Every story is changed in the telling, and the meanings and messages of myth and folklore are in constant flux. In Telling Tales ceramic works by Debbie Prosser are juxtaposed with paintings by Delpha Hudson to present stories in medieval technicolour. Using medieval and classical imagery they create a historical-contemporary visual lens through which narratives become microcosms of collective renewal that build a sense of empathy across time.

Rich with ancient and innovative imagery, flora, fauna and pattern, the surfaces of ceramics and paintings explore the past and reframe the present. Mediating between different worlds and multiple time frames both artists explore myths about women and their place in the world to honour, acknowledge and connect us to the often invisible work of women.
